Suunto API Pricing: Free, for Accepted Partners

Last verified October 27, 2026 · 3 min read

Sources checked (2) · October 27, 2026
  • apizone.suunto.com/ — no charge, who it is for, no personal use, review criteria and timing, API agreement on the form, marketing for partners
  • apizone.suunto.com/faq — commercial and non-commercial use, agency applications, Development API limits, test watches, Valuepack, sleep data, workout-only webhook
Suunto does not charge for its Cloud API: its API Zone says "We do not charge from the use of the API." What you pay instead is access. The API is for companies and organizations that Suunto accepts into its partner program, not for personal use, and you sign an API agreement that Suunto shows only inside the application form. As of October 27, 2026, Suunto's pages list no paid tier; the costs left are test watches, rate limits Suunto does not publish, and your own servers.

What it actually costs#

Suunto's API Zone, read through a source-snapshot run on October 27, 2026, puts the price in one sentence: "We do not charge from the use of the API." Everything else that costs you something is about getting in and building.

CostWho paysWhat Suunto's pages say
Using the Cloud APIYou (the developer)"We do not charge from the use of the API."
Getting acceptedYour company or organizationAccess is through the Suunto partner program; applications are reviewed weekly, with a maximum two-week wait
The API agreementYour companyShown on the application form once you select the Suunto Cloud API; we could not read it
Test watchesYouSuunto does not lend watches to partners but can offer partner companies a deal on them
CapacityYouThe Development API has smaller request limits; Suunto publishes no numbers
Your infrastructureYou (the developer)Servers, storage, token handling, the workout webhook endpoint

None of the Suunto pages we read lists a paid plan or a price per user or request, so this page quotes none.

The price is access#

Suunto provides the API to "companies, organizations who are providing tools / apps / services for public audience", for commercial and non-commercial use, and says "We currently don't offer the API access for personal use." Applicants are reviewed on criteria such as the fit to Suunto's brand, interest from Suunto's customers and the innovation mindset they show. If an agency builds the integration, Suunto asks the client company to submit the application so that it can sign the API agreement.

The agreement is the gap in this page. Suunto says that when you select the Suunto Cloud API on the partner application "you will be provided the API agreement", and it is not published on the API Zone. Any fee, liability or termination terms it holds were not visible to us; read them before you sign.

What you get besides data#

Suunto offers accepted partners marketing in return: your application can be "showcased in Suunto.com and promoted in our media channels", and Suunto invites partners to mention commercial interests when they apply. Partners can also join Suunto Valuepack, a set of offers that partners provide to new Suunto watch buyers. None of this is priced on Suunto's pages.

The catch#

  • Personal projects are out. There is no individual tier; a hobby dashboard over your own workouts cannot get a key.
  • Limits are unpublished. Suunto says the Development API has every endpoint but smaller request limits, and gives no numbers for either API.
  • The data has gaps. Suunto's FAQ says the Cloud API does not yet support sleep data, and the webhook covers workouts only, so a daily-activity sync is polling you pay for in servers.
  • The terms are unseen until you apply. Budget legal review time for the agreement.

The build itself, from the subscription key to FIT files, is in the Suunto API integration guide.

How it compares#

Suunto is one of several sports-watch makers that charge nothing for their API and gate it instead. Wahoo API pricing is free under a published agreement that reserves the right to charge, Polar API pricing covers Polar's terms, and Garmin API pricing covers Garmin's program. If Suunto's partner gate is the problem, Suunto API alternatives lists the other routes to Suunto users' data.

Bottom line#

As of October 27, 2026, the Suunto Cloud API is free to use once your company is accepted into Suunto's partner program. Budget for the application wait, a legal read of an agreement you only see on the form, test watches, and the server time that polling for daily activity takes.

Frequently asked questions

Does Suunto charge for API access?
No. Suunto's API Zone says "We do not charge from the use of the API." The gate is acceptance instead: your company or organization applies to the Suunto partner program and signs Suunto's API agreement, and Suunto reviews applications weekly, with a maximum two-week wait. None of Suunto's pages we read on October 27, 2026 lists a paid tier.
Where are the Suunto API agreement terms?
On the partner application. Suunto says that when you select the Suunto Cloud API on its partner program form you will be provided the API agreement to sign, and it is not published on the API Zone. We could not read it, so check it for fees, liability and termination terms before you sign.
Can Suunto partners get watches for testing?
Not on loan. Suunto's FAQ says it is not able to provide Suunto watches to partner companies, but that partner companies who contact it can get a deal on Suunto watches. Suunto adds that development runs against the production system, so testers can use their own real Suunto data.
