Suunto API Alternatives for Partners and Personal Projects (2026)

If Suunto's partner-only Cloud API does not fit, the main alternatives are aggregators that list Suunto, such as Thryve, Terra, Spike and Open Wearables, the phone health stores that Rook and Sahha read Suunto data from, and Strava, which Suunto names among its published partners. Another sports-watch API is the answer when the brand is negotiable: COROS documents a self-service route with no application. As of October 27, 2026, Suunto says it does not offer API access for personal use, which rules the direct route out for hobby projects.

Suunto's Cloud API is free, but only for companies and organizations it accepts as partners; the Suunto API integration guide covers that route, and Suunto API pricing what it costs. This page is for when it does not fit, as of October 27, 2026.

Why teams look for a Suunto API alternative#

  • No personal use. Suunto says "We currently don't offer the API access for personal use." A dashboard over your own workouts cannot get a key.
  • An application and an agreement. Companies apply to Suunto's partner program and sign an API agreement shown on the form; Suunto reviews weekly, with a maximum two-week wait.
  • Data gaps. Suunto's FAQ says the Cloud API does not yet support sleep data, and that personal data such as weight or heart rate zones is not available yet.
  • Mixed signals on new applications. Terra's supported-integrations table, in its developer-portal column for Suunto, reads "Applications no longer open". Suunto's own API Zone still describes the application process on October 27, 2026, so ask Suunto rather than assume either.

The alternatives#

Aggregators that list Suunto.

  • Thryve lists Suunto as a web source with historic data and marks it yes in its Shared oAuth-client column, which suggests Thryve connects it with its own client. Terra vs Thryve compares the two.
  • Terra lists Suunto as event-driven with credentials "Managed", which its table says means you may create your own credentials and provide them to Terra, next to the "Applications no longer open" note above.
  • Open Wearables, which you host, lists Suunto with the note "You must apply for Suunto Developer Program", so it does not remove the partner gate.
  • Spike lists Suunto on its integrations page.
  • Rook and Sahha list Suunto among sources they read through Apple Health and Health Connect on the phone, rather than through Suunto's cloud.

Strava. Suunto's API Zone names Strava and TrainingPeaks among the latest partners it has published, so a Suunto user can have workouts in Strava, where the Strava API can read them with that user's consent. It suits activity apps and does nothing for daily steps or the data Suunto's own API lacks; Strava API alternatives covers Strava's own limits.

Another sports-watch API. If your users are not tied to Suunto, COROS documents a self-service route: its help center says building on the COROS MCP needs "No application or approval required", one authorizing user at a time. For other brands, see COROS API alternatives, the Garmin API guide and the Polar API guide.

Which should you pick?#

  • You are a company that fits Suunto's partner criteria. Apply directly; the API is free and the review takes at most two weeks.
  • You need Suunto with other brands and no Suunto contract of your own. An aggregator that brokers Suunto, after confirming it can still add new connections.
  • You only need workouts. Strava, if your users already sync Suunto there.
  • It is a personal project. Suunto's direct route is not open to you; read your workouts from a service you sync Suunto to, such as Strava, or use a watch brand with a self-service API.

Is switching easy?#

Suunto's API delivers workouts as FIT files, and so do both of COROS's routes, so a FIT parser you build carries over between those two brands. What does not carry over is the user connection: every route above needs each user to authorize again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get Suunto data without joining Suunto's partner program?
Through an intermediary, sometimes. Thryve marks Suunto yes in its Shared oAuth-client column, Terra and Spike list Suunto, and Rook and Sahha read Suunto data that reaches Apple Health or Health Connect. Open Wearables, which you host, says you must apply for the Suunto program yourself. Strava, a published Suunto partner, has the workouts users sync to it.
Is the Suunto API available for personal projects?
No. Suunto's API Zone says it currently does not offer API access for personal use; access is for companies and organizations building tools, apps or services for a public audience. For your own data, look at a service you already sync Suunto to, such as Strava, one of Suunto's published partners.
Which aggregators connect to Suunto?
As of October 27, 2026, Terra lists Suunto as an event-driven integration, Thryve as a web source with historic data, Spike on its integrations page, Open Wearables as a cloud provider that needs your own Suunto program access, and Rook and Sahha among sources read through Apple Health and Health Connect. Terra's table also notes that applications are no longer open, so confirm before relying on it.
Are Suunto API applications still open?
Suunto's own API Zone still described how to apply on October 27, 2026, with weekly reviews and a maximum two-week wait. Terra's supported-integrations table, in its developer-portal column for Suunto, reads Applications no longer open. The two disagree, so ask Suunto at partners@suunto.com before you plan around either.
