Garmin API Pricing: What Does It Actually Cost?

What Garmin says about cost now#

Nothing with a number in it. Garmin reorganised its developer program between our October 17 and October 22, 2026 reads, and none of the pages we read on October 22 states a fee, a free tier or a price list. What they do describe is three kinds of access, and one of them comes with an explicit note about commercial terms.

The Garmin API overview sums up how Garmin bills developers, what each user needs and what gates your launch, alongside every page we have on Garmin.

The overview says you "create an app with Starter Access" and, as your needs grow, "request Enterprise Access through Garmin Developer Portal". Read that as our interpretation, not Garmin's words: Enterprise is the tier where a commercial negotiation is stated, and Starter is the tier where nothing about money is stated either way.

What changed on October 22, 2026#

This page used to answer the price question from Garmin's program FAQ, which a Wayback Machine capture shows as it read on October 17, 2026: "There are no licensing or maintenance fees for access to the Garmin Connect Developer Program, but it is only for business use. Access to some metrics may require a license fee payment or minimum device order quantity for commercial use."

On October 22 that FAQ address returns a 404. Its replacement, under the program's new Business section, describes Starter and Enterprise Access, sends personal-use questions to the Personal API and contains neither the fee sentence nor the business-use-only sentence. The Health API page lists enhanced beat-to-beat interval with an asterisk that now reads "Supported with Enterprise Access only", where this page used to report a licence-fee note. We have not seen a Garmin statement that the old terms were withdrawn or kept, so treat both the old free-access sentence and the old per-metric licence fee as unconfirmed until Garmin puts terms in writing for you.

Features that sit behind Enterprise Access#

Garmin's API pages mark several features with the same asterisk, "Supported with Enterprise Access only":

• Enhanced beat-to-beat interval in the Health API's metric list.
• Ping/pull delivery. The Health and Women's Health pages offer "Push or *Ping/Pull Architecture".
• Multi-project support and backfill of user data in the developer web tools.

The overview's plan cards say the same thing at plan level: Starter is push only with no historical data and limited user capacity, Enterprise adds ping/pull, history and unlimited users. If any of those matters to your product, you are pricing Enterprise, and Enterprise is a conversation.

The costs you can plan for#

• Time. Garmin's FAQ says that after your request is approved you get the Garmin Developer Portal and "A typical integration takes between 1 and 4 weeks." It no longer states how long the review takes.
• Devices. Your users sync their own Garmin devices. If you want to offer Garmin wearables as part of your product, the FAQ says to request the program "and contact us using the inquiry form".
• Your infrastructure. Servers, storage, OAuth 2.0 token handling, an endpoint for Garmin's push delivery, and monitoring.

How it compares and cheaper paths#

If the data you want is your own, you do not need the developer program at all: Garmin's Personal API gives you a key for your own account, covered in Garmin API for personal use. Garmin says that API is not intended for commercial applications serving multiple end users.

For a product, there are two alternatives worth weighing before you commit. Bottom line#

Garmin does not publish a price for Personal, Starter or Enterprise access, and it says Enterprise commercial terms are tailored. The old "no licensing or maintenance fees" sentence is no longer on Garmin's site. Decide which tier your features need, then get the terms for that tier in writing before you promise anything to a customer.
