BloodPressureRecord: Health Connect blood pressure data

Read from Google’s documentation on 2026-10-03 · Google’s reference page last updated 2026-06-24

BloodPressureRecord is Health Connect's blood pressure record — an Instantaneous record in Google's Vitals category. Its read permission is android.permission.health.READ_BLOOD_PRESSURE; its write permission is android.permission.health.WRITE_BLOOD_PRESSURE. It supports 6 aggregate metrics (DIASTOLIC_AVG, DIASTOLIC_MAX, DIASTOLIC_MIN and SYSTOLIC_AVG and more). Mandatory fields per Google's table: systolic, diastolic, bodyPosition, measurementLocation, metadata and time.

What Google says BloodPressureRecord is

Captures the blood pressure of a user. Each record represents a single instantaneous blood pressure reading.

The 7 fields of BloodPressureRecord

Types and descriptions as Google’s reference prints them. The range column quotes Google’s own range annotation or sentence; a dash means Google states none, which is not the same as no validation.

FieldTypeAllowed rangeGoogle’s description
bodyPositionmandatory= BODY_POSITION_UNKNOWNInt—The user's body position when the measurement was taken. Optional field. Allowed values: BodyPosition.
diastolicmandatoryPressureValid range: 10-180mmHg.Diastolic blood pressure measurement, in Pressure unit. Required field. Valid range: 10-180mmHg. For SDK extension 17 or higher, Valid range: 10-300mmHg.
measurementLocationmandatory= MEASUREMENT_LOCATION_UNKNOWNInt—The arm and part of the arm where the measurement was taken. Optional field. Allowed values: MeasurementLocation.
metadatamandatoryMetadata—Set of common metadata associated with the written record.
systolicmandatoryPressureValid range: 20-200mmHg.Systolic blood pressure measurement, in Pressure unit. Required field. Valid range: 20-200mmHg. For SDK extension 17 or higher, Valid range: 20-300mmHg.
timemandatoryInstant—Time the record happened.
zoneOffsetZoneOffset?—User experienced zone offset at time, or null if unknown. Providing these will help history aggregations results stay consistent should user travel. Queries with user experienced time filters will assume system current zone offset if the information is absent.

Aggregate metrics

The AggregateMetric constants Google defines on BloodPressureRecord. The value type is the T in Google’s AggregateMetric<T> signature. Every aggregate metric across all records.

MetricValue typeGoogle’s description
BloodPressureRecord.DIASTOLIC_AVGPressureMetric identifier to retrieve average diastolic from androidx.health.connect.client.aggregate.AggregationResult.
BloodPressureRecord.DIASTOLIC_MAXPressureMetric identifier to retrieve maximum diastolic from androidx.health.connect.client.aggregate.AggregationResult.
BloodPressureRecord.DIASTOLIC_MINPressureMetric identifier to retrieve minimum diastolic from androidx.health.connect.client.aggregate.AggregationResult.
BloodPressureRecord.SYSTOLIC_AVGPressureMetric identifier to retrieve average systolic from androidx.health.connect.client.aggregate.AggregationResult.
BloodPressureRecord.SYSTOLIC_MAXPressureMetric identifier to retrieve maximum systolic from androidx.health.connect.client.aggregate.AggregationResult.
BloodPressureRecord.SYSTOLIC_MINPressureMetric identifier to retrieve minimum systolic from androidx.health.connect.client.aggregate.AggregationResult.

Google’s read-data guide: “For cumulative types like StepsRecord, use aggregate() instead of readRecords() to avoid double counting from multiple sources and improve accuracy.” and “The aggregation API also contains logic to handle duplicate records, and lessens the chances of rate limiting.”

HealthKit counterpart

No verified HealthKit counterpart. The cross-platform matrix only pairs metrics checked against both Apple’s and Google’s documentation, and BloodPressureRecord is not among them yet. A similarly named Apple type may exist on the HealthKit reference, but a name match is not a verified mapping.

The metric on other platforms

This guide lists BloodPressureRecord beside the types on the other platforms this site covers whose own descriptions name the same metric, each quoted, with how each one is read.

Questions

What permission does BloodPressureRecord need?
Google's Health Connect data-types table (read 2026-10-03) declares android.permission.health.READ_BLOOD_PRESSURE for reading BloodPressureRecord and android.permission.health.WRITE_BLOOD_PRESSURE for writing it, and says apps must declare permissions in the manifest before requesting them.
Which aggregate metrics does BloodPressureRecord support?
Google's Jetpack reference defines 6 on BloodPressureRecord: DIASTOLIC_AVG (AggregateMetric<Pressure>), DIASTOLIC_MAX (AggregateMetric<Pressure>), DIASTOLIC_MIN (AggregateMetric<Pressure>), SYSTOLIC_AVG (AggregateMetric<Pressure>), SYSTOLIC_MAX (AggregateMetric<Pressure>) and SYSTOLIC_MIN (AggregateMetric<Pressure>). Pass them in the metrics set of an AggregateRequest and read each back from the AggregationResult.
What values does BloodPressureRecord.diastolic accept?
Google's reference types diastolic as Pressure. Its description reads: "Diastolic blood pressure measurement, in Pressure unit. Required field. Valid range: 10-180mmHg. For SDK extension 17 or higher, Valid range: 10-300mmHg."
Is BloodPressureRecord an interval, instantaneous or series record?
Google's data-types table lists BloodPressureRecord as Instantaneous, and defines that column as indicating "whether the data is recorded at an instant in time or over an interval". Its mandatory fields are systolic, diastolic, bodyPosition, measurementLocation, metadata and time.
