Terra and Sahha both sit between your app and your users' health data, but they lead with different things. Terra's pitch is breadth: "One API call returns standardised data from 500+ providers". Sahha's is interpretation: "From phones and 800+ devices to biomarkers, scores, archetypes, tags and insights your product can act on." Everything below is from the two vendors' own pages as we read them on October 17, 2026.
At a glance#
| Dimension | Terra | Sahha |
|---|---|---|
| Lead product | Normalized data from wearables, apps and phone health stores | Biomarkers, scores, archetypes, tags and insights |
| Coverage claim | "500+ providers" on its site; its docs say "over 150+ Data Sources" | "800+ devices across 165 integrations" |
| Users without a wearable | Data comes from the sources a user connects | The phone itself is "a passive sensor for sleep, activity, and behavior" |
| Server-side cloud connections | The core of the product, with Terra-managed keys for many sources | "For select providers", and those integrations "are in public beta and are Sandbox only" |
| Entry price | $399 a month billed annually, or $499 monthly, with 100,000 credits | Starter at $299 a month billed annually with 1,000 users |
| Billing unit | 200 credits a month per connected data source, plus events past a free allowance | Users: $0.40 each past 1,000 on Starter, $0.20 each past 10,000 on Pro |
| Free start | 30-day money-back guarantee; testing environments capped at 50 users | 30-day free trial of any plan, card required (pricing page, October 22, 2026) |
| Scores | An add-on, from $499 a month on Quick Start | 5 scores on every plan |
| BAA | Listed on Enterprise | Included from Pro, at $1,499 a month billed annually |
| Webhooks | HMAC signature header; up to 10 retries over about 8 hours | HMAC-SHA256 signature; up to 5 retries with exponential backoff |
| Labs | Blood and DNA test ordering, US and UK | None listed |
Where Terra wins#
Server-side coverage you can use in production. Terra's model is cloud connections run by Terra: "Terra manages API Keys of data sources, meaning you can connect users without having to apply for each API Key", and "Garmin data flows through Terra today". Sahha says it "also connects directly through their cloud API" for select providers, but its docs say those integrations "are in public beta and are Sandbox only", and each one runs on an app you register with the provider. If you need Garmin, Oura or WHOOP data without your users installing your app, Terra is the one that offers it in production today.
More delivery options and diagnostics. Terra delivers "to webhooks, SQL databases (Postgres and MySQL), Supabase, cloud storage (S3, GCS and Azure Blob), queueing services (SQS and Kafka), MongoDB and Firestore", and can "Order blood and DNA tests for your users through Terra API". Its data types run from "sleep stages and latency" to "per-set strength training".
The trade-off. You pay per connected data source, and scores cost extra: "Health scores are an add-on for Quick Start plans. Starting from $499 / month".
Where Sahha wins#
Users without a wearable. Sahha's answer to "do my users need a wearable?" is "No. Sahha turns the smartphone itself into a passive sensor for sleep, activity, and behavior." For a mass-market app where most users own only a phone, that is a different starting dataset, not just a cheaper one.
Interpretation included. Every Sahha plan includes "Biomarkers 100+ Scores 5 Archetypes 100+ Tags 75+ Insights 100+". On Terra, scores are a separate add-on.
A lower, per-user bill. Starter is $299 a month billed annually with 1,000 users, then "$0.40/user"; Pro is $1,499 with 10,000 users, then "$0.20/user". By our arithmetic, with one source per person and annual billing:
| Users | Terra | Sahha |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | About $899 ($399 plus 100,000 extra credits at $0.005) | $299 on Starter |
| 5,000 | About $4,899 ($399 plus 900,000 extra credits) | $1,499 on Pro, or about $1,899 on Starter |
Those are list-price calculations, not quotes, and Sahha's page does not define a user in the text we fetched.
A BAA below Enterprise. "The DPA is included on every plan. A BAA is included from Pro." Terra lists its signed BAA on Enterprise.
The trade-off. Sahha's data mostly arrives "on-device through Apple Health or Health Connect", so your app with Sahha's SDK has to be on the user's phone, and data retention is 30 days on Starter and 120 on Pro.
Webhooks and signatures#
Both sign their webhooks. Terra says "Every webhook sent by Terra includes an HMAC-based signature header" and "retries the delivery up to 10 times with exponential backoff". Sahha tells you to "Compute an HMAC-SHA256 hash of the raw request body using your secret key, then compare it to the signature in the header", and says "Failed deliveries are retried up to 5 times with exponential backoff". Sahha also batches score and biomarker updates: its webhook interval "acts as a deduplication window".
What we could not verify#
- Sahha's definition of a user. Its pricing page lists the question "What counts as a user?", but the answer did not appear in the text we fetched.
- When Sahha's cloud integrations leave beta. The docs say beta and sandbox only, with no date.
- Terra's default hosting region. The Terra pages we read name a localised dedicated instance on Enterprise but no default region.
Which should you pick?#
- Most of your users have a phone but no wearable: lean Sahha.
- You want scores and insights without building them: lean Sahha, where they come with every plan.
- You need server-side Garmin, Oura or WHOOP data in production, or many sources per user: lean Terra.
- Lab tests, or data delivered into your own database or queue: Terra.
- A HIPAA product on a mid-size budget: compare Sahha's Pro, which includes the BAA, with Terra's Enterprise quote.
See Sahha API pricing, the Terra integration guide and health-data aggregator APIs for the rest of the field.
Bottom line#
Terra is the broader data pipe, billed per connected source; Sahha is the phone-first signal layer, billed per user, with scores and a lower BAA tier included. Pick by where your users' data starts, then re-read both live pricing pages, because these figures are from October 17, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Terra or Sahha cheaper?
- On list prices, Sahha. As of October 17, 2026, Sahha's Starter is $299 a month billed annually for 1,000 users and Pro is $1,499 for 10,000, while Terra starts at $399 a month billed annually and charges 200 credits per connected data source per month. By our arithmetic, 5,000 one-source users cost about $4,899 a month on Terra and $1,499 on Sahha's Pro. The products differ, so price what you need, not just the user count.
- Does Sahha work if my users do not have a wearable?
- Yes. Sahha's homepage says users do not need a wearable because Sahha turns the smartphone itself into a passive sensor for sleep, activity and behavior. Terra works from the sources a user connects, such as a watch, ring or phone health store. As of October 17, 2026, that is the clearest difference between the two.
- Can Sahha pull Garmin data from the cloud like Terra?
- Only in beta. As of October 17, 2026, Sahha's docs say its direct cloud integrations are in public beta and sandbox only, and Garmin's needs Garmin's approval of your own app. Terra's homepage says Garmin data flows through Terra's own partner integration today, though its integrations table marks Garmin as Required, so confirm the credential setup with Terra.
- Which Terra and Sahha plans include a BAA?
- As of October 17, 2026, Sahha includes a BAA from its Pro plan, $1,499 a month billed annually, and its DPA on every plan. Terra lists a signed BAA on its Enterprise plan, which is priced by quote. Whether you need a BAA depends on your role under HIPAA.
- Do Terra and Sahha sign their webhooks?
- Both do. Terra includes an HMAC-based signature header on every webhook and retries failed deliveries up to 10 times with exponential backoff. Sahha signs with HMAC-SHA256 over the raw request body and retries failed deliveries up to 5 times. Verify against the raw body in both cases, before any JSON parsing.
