Wahoo's Cloud API is free to use under its Public API Agreement, but access is by request and the terms are strict; the Wahoo API integration guide covers the build and Wahoo API pricing the terms. This page covers the other routes, as of October 27, 2026.
Why teams look for a Wahoo API alternative#
- Approval first. Wahoo is "currently limiting use of the API to those who request it", and production apps go through a further review.
- Tight sandbox limits. A sandbox app gets 250 requests a day, and a sandbox app cannot later be converted into a production app.
- No third-party workouts. Wahoo says it "does not share completed workout data that originates from third-party applications".
- Competitive-use terms. The agreement bars using Wahoo's API in an app that also supports a third party providing services competitive to Wahoo's products, as Wahoo determines. A multi-brand app may need another route, or Wahoo's blessing.
The alternatives#
Apple Health, Strava and other apps Wahoo syncs to. Wahoo's apps page says: "Sync routes and workouts or send completed activities to Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, Komoot, and more", and that Wahoo works with over 110 training and fitness apps. So, with the user's own sync turned on:
- An iPhone app can read Wahoo activities from Apple Health through HealthKit, on the device and with no Wahoo developer account. See integrating HealthKit.
- A web app can read them from Strava through the Strava API, under Strava's own approval and limits; Strava API alternatives covers those.
The catch is that you get what those platforms store, not Wahoo's own resources such as profile data and power zones, and only for users who switched the sync on.
Aggregators that list Wahoo.
- Terra lists Wahoo as event-driven, with credentials "Managed", which its table explains as meaning you may create your own credentials and provide them to Terra; the developer-portal link it gives is Wahoo's own. See the Terra integration guide.
- Spike lists Wahoo on its integrations page.
- Rook and Sahha list Wahoo among sources they read through Apple Health and Health Connect on the phone.
Thryve's data-sources table and Open Wearables' provider list did not include Wahoo when we read them on October 27, 2026. Note that if an aggregator connects Wahoo with your own Wahoo credentials, Wahoo's agreement still applies to you.
The EU Data Act, for EU users. Wahoo's EU Data Act Addendum, effective September 12, 2025, gives EU users, businesses and other entities the right to access their data, delete it and request that it be shared with a third party; access requests are free of charge, and Wahoo says data comes in formats such as .FIT, .CSV or .JSON. It is a per-user request process, not an API, and Wahoo says it may decline a request for reasons the Data Act permits.
Another device maker. If your users are not tied to Wahoo, this site's Garmin API guide and COROS API alternatives cover other cycling and running devices.
| Alternative | Best for | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Health via HealthKit | iPhone apps | Only users who sync Wahoo to Apple Health; on-device |
| Strava API | Web apps that need rides and runs | Strava's approval and limits; activities only |
| Terra, Spike | Wahoo beside other devices | Fees; Wahoo's terms if your credentials are used |
| Rook, Sahha | Mobile apps reading the phone health stores | Only what reaches Apple Health or Health Connect |
| EU Data Act request | An EU user's own data | Per-user request, not an API |
Which should you pick?#
- Your app is on the iPhone and needs completed rides. Apple Health, which Wahoo names as a sync destination.
- Your users already live in Strava. The Strava API, if activity summaries and streams are enough.
- You need Wahoo's own resources, such as profile data or power zones. Those come through the Cloud API; request access.
- You support many brands. An aggregator, and a read of Wahoo's competitive-use clause either way.
Is switching easy?#
Wahoo's API, Strava and Apple Health each hold the same activities in their own shapes, so plan to re-map fields. Every route needs each user to connect again, and the Apple Health route moves your reads from your server to the phone.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I read Wahoo workouts through Apple Health or Strava?
- For users who turn the sync on, yes. Wahoo's apps page says Wahoo can sync routes and workouts or send completed activities to Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, Komoot and more. An iPhone app can then read them through HealthKit and a web app through the Strava API, though you get those platforms' fields rather than Wahoo's own.
- Which aggregators connect to Wahoo?
- As of October 27, 2026, Terra lists Wahoo as an event-driven integration with managed credentials, Spike lists it on its integrations page, and Rook and Sahha list it among sources read through Apple Health and Health Connect. Thryve's data-sources table and Open Wearables' provider list did not include Wahoo when we read them.
- Can EU users get their Wahoo data under the Data Act?
- Yes. Wahoo's EU Data Act Addendum, effective September 12, 2025, lets EU users access and delete their data and request that it be shared with a third party. Access requests are free of charge, and data comes in formats such as .FIT, .CSV or .JSON. Wahoo may decline requests for reasons the Data Act permits.
- Does the Wahoo API include workouts from other apps?
- No. Wahoo's Cloud API documentation says Wahoo does not share completed workout data that originates from third-party applications, so a workout a user recorded in another app is not available through the Wahoo API. If you need those, read them from where the user records them.
