# Polar API Pricing: Is the AccessLink API Free?

> Polar's AccessLink API, often searched as the Polar Flow API, costs nothing to use today: Polar's API license agreement, last updated August 22, 2025, says Polar offers the use and activation of its APIs free of charge "at the moment" and reserves the right to charge fees at its discretion. Any registered Polar Flow user can create an API client, so there is no approval fee or partner tier to buy. The costs that remain are your users' Polar devices, rate limits that grow with your registered users, and your own servers; none of Polar's pages we read on October 22, 2026 lists a paid plan.

## What it actually costs

Polar answers the price question in one clause of its API license agreement, which a source-snapshot run read on October 22, 2026 (the agreement says it was last updated on 22 August 2025): "At the moment Polar offers the use and activation of Polar API's free of charge." The next sentence keeps the door open: "However, Polar reserves the right to charge fees from time to time at its discretion."

Every page on this site that covers Polar is collected in the [Polar API overview](/apis/polar).

| Cost | Who pays | What Polar's pages say |
|---|---|---|
| Using and activating the API | You (the developer) | Free of charge "at the moment"; Polar may charge fees at its discretion |
| The license | You (the developer) | A "royalty-free, non-transferable, non-exclusive, worldwide and limited license" |
| Getting a client | You (the developer) | "Any registered Polar Flow user" can create one at admin.polaraccesslink.com |
| Updates, new versions, support | You, only if Polar offers them | Polar has no obligation to provide them; if it does, fees "shall be agreed separately" |
| Polar devices | Your users | AccessLink serves data "recorded by Polar devices" |
| Capacity | You (the developer) | Rate limits that grow with your registered users (below) |
| Your infrastructure | You (the developer) | Servers, storage, token handling, the webhook endpoint |

None of the Polar pages we read lists a paid plan, a price per user or a price per request, so this page quotes none.

## Polar Flow API, AccessLink and Team Pro: which one is "the Polar API"

The names get mixed up in searches. Polar's agreement says "Currently Polar has two application programming interfaces, AccessLink and Polar Team Pro API": AccessLink moves data out of Polar Flow, the consumer service, and the Team Pro API does the same for the Polar Team Pro system. So the "Polar Flow API" people search for is AccessLink, and the same agreement, including the fee clause, covers both. Polar's developer page also lists a Polar mobile SDK that "enables you to read and interpret live data from Polar devices", which runs in your app rather than against Polar's cloud; none of the pages we read gives it a price.

## Rate limits are the real ceiling

Free does not mean unlimited. AccessLink's documentation describes a dynamic limit that "scales partners rate limit values based on number of registered users":

| Window | Formula Polar publishes |
|---|---|
| 15 minutes | 500 + number of users x 20 |
| 24 hours | 5000 + number of users x 100 |

Requests over the limit get 429 Too Many Requests, and short-term violations still count toward the long-term limit. The rate-limit section of Polar's documentation describes no paid tier that raises these numbers. The mechanics, from OAuth to webhooks, are in the [Polar API integration guide](/integrate/polar-api).

## The catch: terms, not invoices

The costs that can surprise you are in the agreement's conditions rather than a bill.

- **The price can change.** Besides the fee clause, Polar may change the agreement itself, and changes take effect "upon posting updated agreement terms on this site". Polar recommends visiting the page regularly.
- **Access can stop.** Polar may suspend or terminate your access "for any or no reason, with immediate effect", and caps its total liability under the agreement at 500 euros.
- **No competing service.** You may not use the API "in creating a service similar to or competing with Polar Ecosystem".
- **Credit Polar.** You must credit Polar Ecosystem as the source when you display its data.
- **No load testing.** Load testing without Polar's prior approval counts as interfering with the Polar Ecosystem and "may result in blacklisting".
- **Not for gatekeepers.** Companies designated gatekeepers under the EU Digital Markets Act are not eligible to enter the agreement.
- **Aggregators sign per customer.** An aggregator serving corporate customers has to accept the agreement for each Corporate Customer separately.

## How it compares and other paths

Polar sits with the wearable APIs that cost nothing to call, where the spending goes on integration work, the user's device and your own servers. For the closest comparisons, see [Oura API pricing](/pricing/oura-api-pricing) and [WHOOP API pricing](/pricing/whoop-api-pricing), and for every wearable side by side, [wearable data APIs](/fitness-apis/wearable-data-apis).

If you need Polar alongside many other devices, an aggregator is the other route. Polar's developer page names Validic among the organisations using Polar data and says "Connections to Polar's devices are available via the Validic platform and integration." Aggregators charge for that; see [health data aggregator pricing](/pricing/health-data-aggregator-pricing).

## Bottom line

As of October 22, 2026, Polar's AccessLink API is free to use under an agreement that lets Polar start charging whenever it chooses and change its terms by posting new ones. Budget for your users' Polar devices, design for rate limits that scale with your user count, and re-read the agreement before each launch rather than assuming today's price holds.

## FAQ

### Is the Polar AccessLink API free?

Yes, for now. Polar's API license agreement, last updated August 22, 2025, says that at the moment Polar offers the use and activation of its APIs free of charge, and it grants a royalty-free license. The same clause says Polar reserves the right to charge fees from time to time at its discretion, so treat free as the current state rather than a promise.

### Can Polar start charging for its API?

Yes. The fee clause of Polar's agreement reserves the right to charge fees at Polar's discretion, and the agreement lets Polar change its terms, effective when the updated terms are posted on its site. Polar also says fees for any updates, new versions or support it chooses to offer would be agreed separately. Re-read the agreement before you launch and periodically after.

### What is the difference between the Polar Flow API and AccessLink?

They are the same thing. Polar's agreement names two APIs, AccessLink and the Polar Team Pro API, and says AccessLink enables the transfer of data from Polar Flow to other applications. People searching for a Polar Flow API want AccessLink. The Team Pro API covers data from the Polar Team Pro system, and both fall under the same agreement and fee clause.

[Permalink](https://aifitnessapi.com/pricing/polar-api-pricing#faq-3)

### How many requests does Polar's free API allow?

It depends on your user count. AccessLink allows 500 requests plus 20 per registered user in each 15-minute window, and 5,000 plus 100 per user in each 24 hours, recalculated daily. Requests over the limit return 429. The rate-limit section of Polar's documentation describes no paid tier that raises these limits.

### Who is not allowed to use the Polar API?

Polar's agreement says companies designated gatekeepers under the EU Digital Markets Act are not eligible to enter it. It also bars using the API to build a service similar to or competing with the Polar Ecosystem, load testing without Polar's approval, and scraping Polar's services by automated means.
