Flutter health data packages

4 packages (4 pub.dev) · 1 comparison · registries read 2026-10-03 · README notes checked 2026-10-03

Two of the 4 Flutter packages this site tracks read and write both Apple HealthKit and Android Health Connect: health, first published on pub.dev in November 2019, and health_connector, first published in November 2025. Between those two, the deciding fact for many teams is which Flutter version they can run: health declares Flutter >=3.6.0 and health_connector >=3.38.0. The other two cover one store each — health_kit_reporter is iOS-only and flutter_health_connect covers Health Connect alone — and flutter_health_connect's latest release dates from March 2023.

Every Flutter package on this list

Read from the registries and repositories by a script, not typed by hand. Release dates are shown as dates, with the gap to our read, rather than as a verdict on whether a project is alive; what each README says about its own status is under How to choose and on each package page.

Versions, dates and licences read from pub.dev on 2026-10-03; last-commit dates read by git on 2026-10-03; archive flags from the GitHub API, read 2026-10-03. This data records no download counts, so the table has no downloads column. Repository is the GitHub owner and name as GitHub reports it, which is how the data names a maintainer.

How to choose: our reading

Judgement, labelled as such, drawn only from the README notes and registry facts on each package’s page and from the comparisons. No package is ranked first.

Both stores from one package

health · health_connector

  • You cannot move to a recent Flutter yet: health_connector declares Flutter >=3.38.0, and health declares >=3.6.0.
  • You want the package with the longer public track record: health was first published 2019-11-08 and health_connector 2025-11-23, 314 days before our read.
  • Either way, check the specific data types you need in each package's own type list before choosing — both projects publish one.
  • health removed Google Fit support in version 11.0.0; on Android it reads and writes Health Connect.
  • Both document a route to Health Connect history older than 30 days: health through requestHealthDataHistoryAuthorization, health_connector through its HealthPlatformFeature.readHealthDataHistory permission, each with READ_HEALTH_DATA_HISTORY declared in the manifest.

Flutter health vs health_connector: side by side →

iOS only

health_kit_reporter

  • health_kit_reporter wraps the HealthKitReporter library and declares iOS as its only plugin platform.
  • When we checked it on 2026-10-03, the README on its repository's default branch was ahead of the version on pub.dev, so follow the README that matches the version you install.

Health Connect only

flutter_health_connect

  • flutter_health_connect documents Android setup only. Its latest pub.dev release dates from March 2023, and its pubspec declares a Dart SDK constraint of >=2.17.0 <3.0.0.
  • Its README lists minSdkVersion 26 (28 recommended), compileSdkVersion 34 and Flutter 2.5.0 or higher.

Platform rules these packages inherit

A wrapper inherits every rule of the API it calls. Each rule below is stated, with its sources, on the page it links.

  • HealthKit data lives only on Apple devices and is read by app code on the device: Apple's setup has no tokens and no server endpoint. On Android, an app integrates Health Connect separately.

    HealthKit integration guide →

  • HealthKit never tells an app whether the user granted read access: a denied read looks exactly like no data, whichever wrapper makes the query.

    HealthKit integration guide →

  • Health Connect is Android-only and on-device, not an OAuth cloud API. It is part of the platform from Android 14; on Android 13 and lower it is a separate app the user installs from the Play Store.

    Health Connect integration guide →

  • By default an app can read Health Connect data from up to 30 days before its first permission grant; reading further back needs the history permission.

    Health Connect integration guide →

  • Shipping on Google Play needs the Play Console Health apps declaration, listing every data type the app reads or writes.

Questions

Which Flutter packages read both HealthKit and Health Connect?
Two of the 4 this site tracks: health, maintained in the carp-dk/carp-health-flutter repository, and health_connector. health_kit_reporter covers HealthKit on iOS only, and flutter_health_connect covers Health Connect only; its README documents Android setup alone.
What minimum Flutter and Dart versions do the Flutter health packages need?
As each pubspec's environment declares them on pub.dev: health — Dart SDK >=3.8.0 <4.0.0, Flutter >=3.6.0; health_connector — Dart SDK ^3.10.0, Flutter >=3.38.0; health_kit_reporter — Dart SDK >=2.12.0 <4.0.0, Flutter >=1.20.0; flutter_health_connect — Dart SDK >=2.17.0 <3.0.0, Flutter >=2.5.0. A declared range is the author's statement, not a test result, so build against the versions you ship.
Which platforms do the Flutter health packages declare?
Android and iOS at most: health, Android and iOS, per its pubspec plugin platforms; health_connector, Android and iOS, per pub.dev's platform tags; health_kit_reporter, iOS, per its pubspec plugin platforms; flutter_health_connect, Android and iOS, per its pubspec plugin platforms. None declares web or desktop. flutter_health_connect's README documents Android setup only, although its pubspec also registers an iOS plugin class.

Registry facts read by scripts/fetch-libraries.mjs on 2026-10-03; README notes checked on 2026-10-03. README quotes and notes are each project's own statements; the selection, grouping and reading are AIFitnessAPI's, which publishes none of these packages.
