OvulationTestRecord: Health Connect ovulation test data

Read from Google’s documentation on 2026-10-03 · Google’s reference page last updated 2026-06-24

OvulationTestRecord is Health Connect's ovulation test record — an Instantaneous record in Google's Cycle Tracking category. Its read permission is android.permission.health.READ_OVULATION_TEST; its write permission is android.permission.health.WRITE_OVULATION_TEST. Google's reference defines no aggregate metrics on it, so it is read with readRecords rather than aggregate. Mandatory fields per Google's table: metadata, result and time.

What Google says OvulationTestRecord is

Each record represents the result of an ovulation test.

The 4 fields of OvulationTestRecord

Types and descriptions as Google’s reference prints them. The range column quotes Google’s own range annotation or sentence; a dash means Google states none, which is not the same as no validation.

FieldTypeAllowed rangeGoogle’s description
metadatamandatoryMetadata—Set of common metadata associated with the written record.
resultmandatoryInt—The result of a user's ovulation test, which shows if they're ovulating or not. Required field.
timemandatoryInstant—Time the record happened.
zoneOffsetZoneOffset?—User experienced zone offset at time, or null if unknown. Providing these will help history aggregations results stay consistent should user travel. Queries with user experienced time filters will assume system current zone offset if the information is absent.

Constants

The 4 const val values Google’s reference lists on OvulationTestRecord, with the integer each maps to.

ConstantValueGoogle’s description
OvulationTestRecord.RESULT_HIGH2High fertility. Refers to a rise in estrogen or luteinizing hormone that may signal the fertile window (time in the menstrual cycle when conception is likely to occur).
OvulationTestRecord.RESULT_INCONCLUSIVE0Inconclusive result. Refers to ovulation test results that are indeterminate (e.g. may be testing malfunction, user error, etc.). ". Any unknown value will also be returned as RESULT_INCONCLUSIVE.
OvulationTestRecord.RESULT_NEGATIVE3Negative fertility (may also be referred as "low" fertility). Refers to the time in the cycle where fertility/conception is expected to be low.
OvulationTestRecord.RESULT_POSITIVE1Positive fertility (may also be referred as "peak" fertility). Refers to the peak of the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge and ovulation is expected to occur in 10-36 hours.

HealthKit counterpart

No verified HealthKit counterpart. The cross-platform matrix only pairs metrics checked against both Apple’s and Google’s documentation, and OvulationTestRecord is not among them yet. A similarly named Apple type may exist on the HealthKit reference, but a name match is not a verified mapping.

The metric on other platforms

This guide lists OvulationTestRecord beside the types on the other platforms this site covers whose own descriptions name the same metric, each quoted, with how each one is read.

Questions

What permission does OvulationTestRecord need?
Google's Health Connect data-types table (read 2026-10-03) declares android.permission.health.READ_OVULATION_TEST for reading OvulationTestRecord and android.permission.health.WRITE_OVULATION_TEST for writing it, and says apps must declare permissions in the manifest before requesting them.
Can you aggregate OvulationTestRecord with AggregateRequest?
Not directly. As read on 2026-10-03, Google's Jetpack reference defines no AggregateMetric constants on OvulationTestRecord, so there is no metric to put in an AggregateRequest. Read the records with readRecords and a ReadRecordsRequest, and compute any summary yourself.
Which constants does OvulationTestRecord define?
Google's reference lists 4 constants on OvulationTestRecord, including RESULT_HIGH = 2, RESULT_INCONCLUSIVE = 0, RESULT_NEGATIVE = 3 and RESULT_POSITIVE = 1. Store the constant name or the value it maps to, and treat values you do not recognise as unknown.
Is OvulationTestRecord an interval, instantaneous or series record?
Google's data-types table lists OvulationTestRecord as Instantaneous, and defines that column as indicating "whether the data is recorded at an instant in time or over an interval". Its mandatory fields are metadata, result and time.
